We want to be Your Peer Advocate

Heart of Courage offers reliable and compassionate peer mentors to assist and mentor mothers in cultivating the attitudes, goals, and expectations necessary to establish a stable and sustainable environment for their families.

 

Through peer mentoring Heart of Courage is able to:

  • Offering assistance from a Peer Advocate to help individuals overcome past challenges, foster self-forgiveness, and inspire hope for the future.

  • Empowering mothers to cultivate a sense of authentic pride by guiding them to make choices that lead to success.

  • Enhancing the reunification or continuity of mothers with their children.

Become a Peer Advocate

Our peer mentoring program uses volunteers to commit to supporting, guiding, and being a friend to mothers in jeopardy of losing custody of their child or need our support services.  Our peer advocates can help our mothers develop and reach positive academic, career, and personal goals.

 

Peer Advocate Role

  • Take the lead in supporting our mothers through an ongoing, one-to-one relationship

  • Serve as a positive role model and friend

  • Build the relationship by planning and participating in activities together

  • Strive for mutual respect 

  • Build self-esteem and motivation

  • Help set goals and work toward accomplishing them

All peer advocates MUST be:

  • Willing listener

  • Encouraging and supportive

  • Patient and flexible

  • Tolerant and respectful of individual differences
